Thrift Shop Bad Bargains

As I work in IT, I always get a kick out of how some tech goods are priced in shops.  For example, a 128 mb thumb drive for $9.99.  I feel sorry for the person who buys that thing.  Or how about old "Zip" Drives for $25.  Does anyone still own them and actually use them?  Since the poor are the ones that predominantly shop those stores they will get screwed.

Now the one thing you can get for good prices at thrift stores are cables.  You can pick up spare ethernet cables for next to nothing.  Not that they are that expensive retail.  I'm just sayin'.

It reminds me of old DEC Vax drives that people once installed in computer rooms.  My economical Dell laptop has more capacity and processing speed than what once cost thousands.  When you can buy a 1TB drive for what, $100, it gives you great perspective on how far technology has come over 20 years.

How long before our smart phones give away a 1TB capacity phone for signing a two year agreement?

Been Gone For a Couple of Weeks

But I did pick up anew Brooks Brothers 346 suit for $15.  And again, continuing on my camera theme.

Thrift shops have such a negative image that people who would spend $500 on a lens won't spend the time it takes to browse thrift shops.
